光には青い光や赤い光があります。青い光は「波長」が短く、赤い光は波長が長くなっています。波長が短いほど、光は強く「散乱」されます（青い光は強く散乱されます）。

日中は、散乱の強い青が強調されて空は青く見えます。朝夕は、光が大気層を長く通過するので青は散乱されきってしまい、散乱しにくい赤やオレンジが強調され、空は赤く見えます。
